Lance James – SwanSong
R300,00
Showing off the versatility and experience he built up over the course of his 60-year career, Lance James’ (RIP) last full-length release, Swan Song.
With a combination of original tracks as well as covers – including an unexpected rendition of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” – the album is proof of James’ versatility.
Apart from his career-defining country sound (“Leave Me Alone With the Blues”), he dabbles in a bit of rockabilly (“High Heel Sneakers”), blues (“Glory of Love”), and some good old rock ‘n’ roll (“Trouble Will Soon Be Over”).
The first single off the album, a cover of Toby Keith’s “Don’t Let The Old Man In,” is beautifully weary and nostalgic, while his version of “Nothing Else Matters” sounds like James reading a confession from his journal as Wonderboom’s Cito provides passionate backing vocals.
The highlight of the album is the cover of “Rollin’ and Tumblin’”. With its distorted slide guitar, silky blues harmonica, and driving drum beat it’s about as dirty as the Delta Blues get.
Lance James has been a mainstay of the South African music industry for decades and Swan Song is a compendium of everything he has learned along the way.
