Running a vinyl store is a lot of fun- playing music all day, meeting loads of interesting and sometimes quirky people and constantly looking for new collections to buy for the shop. I recently was asked “what are your biggest selling records”?  Which made me think…. So, I decided to break it down by genre. As far as straight Pop titles go it`s toss up between Abba`s Greatest Hits, Tracy Chapman`s self-titled debut, Phil Collins But Seriously, The Beatles Red and Blue compilations, Fleetwood Mac`s classic Rumours and of course The Eagles Greatest Hits. Rock is such a spread out field but the front runners are any Pink Floyd, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Depeche Mode, Nirvana or Dire Straits. From the Big Screen, the leading soundtrack by far is Dirty Dancing followed by Top Gun Rocky Horror, Saturday Night Fever and surprisingly…The Sound of Music. Jazz always has John Coltrane, Miles Davis, anything from the avant garde ECM label and more recently , Kamasi Washington. In the Soul section it`s always Motown- Marvin Gaye, The Temptations as well as albums by Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston. Don`t get me started about hip-hop, blues, disco, folk, classical and reggae although 2Pac, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Bee Gees, Nick Drake, Mozart and Bob Marley come up trumps there. However, these faves change from week to week, that`s the exciting thing about working at Vinyl Junkie. You can find us at 94 Conrad Drive Blairgowrie, Monday to Saturday.
